Cupcakes 911 - Wedding favour

I got this order at a super last minute. A referral from bestie. It was for wedding favor gifts from the groom to bride and vice versa. The order is the day before the wedding. YES! U heard it right! The day before the wedding! Thank Allah that my module has not yet start and I was free on Sat. So, that means, I could wake up early n prepare. This time, I really enjoy doing this batch. The ADRENALINE RUSH! Look at the pics and u'll see the result.

And yes, forgetful me, forgot to take pics when Norris brought the box to my house for me to place the cuppies in and decorate with the ribbons. I didn't manage to buy the box as it was too last min and coincidentally, her work place is near Geylang. So, she bought it. And since she collected it from my house, the ribbons and box base(s) were FREE!I'm still waiting for her to send me the pics soooooon. Will update my Flickr album soon with the favor box.

My experiences doing wedding cupcake favors has come up to a conclusion: It is best to follow the 'dulang' colour for coordination purposes. Decos are just enhancements.

Chapter 4: Batik Pudding

Ok here it goes my very last, super late entry on Eid list. I made these in 2 batches this yr. It's called Batik Pudding, made of Marie Biscuits, milo, some cocoa, nestum, etc etc. It's called a pudding but you gotta cut it like how you do it for a cake. It will turn out with a batik outcome, something like... prints. Many marble prints of it. I kinda like the texture and taste as its level of sweetness is just right. This morning of 1st day of Hari Raya I did this, my first experiment, when I was not having any sleep. Drag to do this but gotta prepare some for atok that time. And, I did it again after work, cos my cookies were running out then. Anyone who wish to order this, you may email me.

Chapter 3: Eid done list - The Cookies

I've made this Special Batik Pudding but didn't manage to get a snap of it cos I was in a hurry to go visiting. So, I packed them and rushed to their house to have that for raya there. I plan to make another round of that as my cookies has run down in supply. Hehe. Will update you guys soon :)

Chapter 1: Eid done list - Goody cuppies

I got to do the "Eid done list/pics" in batch posts, easier for classification. And, I gotta choose the pics and the loading, and my eyes gotta struggle much as I update the blog close to midnight. Ok here are the pics for what I term it as goody cuppies. They aren't cookies but they are hot fav during Eid. I just realised that the wrapper is a bit too thin so it stick to cornflakes, slightly. Apologies to my customers who ordered and got a slight stick (cos I always expect my bakes to be Perfect!). Didn't realise it was thin. The uncle told me it was not that thin. I felt cheated lah seh (I seriously don't like to blame others but I too bake these for myself). Ok here's the pics. Choc crunch become a hit this yr at my house among the kids.

Here's what I'm planning to do for Eid this yr. Of course not cupcakes! Unless, I have one big group coming later during Eid, and I got no cookies left, I'll make them. Other than, maybe I'm planning to do cakes if I have the free time after my exams that is, which is on the 3rd day of Aidilfitri. The price stated is based on bottle sizes. From left to right, small (S), medium (M), large (L). I don't have the xtra large (XL) pics for now, but it's twice as large as the medium one. (I know, sound like buying shirts. Lol!) The Super Late Update

Hi guys. I'm super late this time updating my blog. Been busy with work, sch and trainings. Sometimes, I do wonder where do I get the time to do my bakes. The last wk before the fasting mth, one of my older cuz, another one, got married. So since I am for training, I make a contribution in terms of my bakes. Yes, he loves the simple cuppies. Being guys, they just prefer something less complicated. It's just the larger version of what I've done for my other cuz.

Here were just some of the cuppies. There were more!

Oh ya been busy for the past wk cos I've been training for something else too, other than dragonboating. I went to queue for 3hrs...

and later train for the run with the sistaz...

and now I'm training for my upcoming Regatta too during the fasting mth. Big challenge.

Other than that, I'll be doing my cookie bakes for my family and some of my close friends who have made special request. Won't be making at large scale this time cos I've got exams on 3rd day of Hari Raya. Not funny eh.

I'll update on the cookie bakes which I'm going to do and what I've done.

Btw, my Eid cookies last year went big hits last year. Many request for orders this time round too but I apologise that I have to turn them down cos of schedule clash. Insya Allah, I'll be doing large scale again next yr since I've completed my studies, if I'm not doin my honours that is. FYI, my previous blog for cookies was: wickedlyvanityfair.blogspot.com

Here's something that I experiment with, than sticking to conventional cupcakes, which I am continuously exploring my ideas with :)

It's yellow glutinous rice, decorated nicely with cili padis, mini egg and cherry tomatoes. Adorable!

Cupcakes - Wedding favour (Clear box), Dad's & Cuzzy's minis

Where should I start my blogging? Ok here goes the rojak.

1) Wedding favour - My friend's cuzzy wishes to have the cuppies with frosting, pink and white, with hearts, for a wedding gift. So here it goes. It's like lovelies from the base of the box, to the decos, to the chocs I made. Heart throb! The icing this time went superb! Here's the pics (More @ Flickr e-pics)

After the cuppies were all in the box, well-behaved.

2) Dad grumbled cos he always didn't manage to eat my cuppies, cos it always someone else did. (Not me of course) So I made some for him. And guess what, even that didn't manage to get into his stomach cos he forgotten it for a day, and so the others thought he doesn't want it. Don't worry Dad, there's always your anniversary coming up this National Day :)

3) Cuzzy (not a close one, from my dad's side) got married on the same week. Since I can't make it for her wedding, cos I find training is more important that her wedding, I made extreme minis for her. It's somewhat simple. Vanilla cuppies with choc rice. My mum told me it was sold out the moment they dished it out. I made LOTS of them! And, it was gone within 1hr. That's super fast. I do make these too. So for those who are interested in this, pls do email me :)

Ganache is hot! (Individual packaging)

Another hot order from one my bestie. She wanted to give for her tutee's mum for Mother's Day. Kinda sweet rite? If you have a peep at the pic, the cuppies were a larger version of what I've gave my bestie. Believe me, it's worth it giving cakes like these (in the pics) to the ones closed to you. Just like the ones I gave to my bestie, she was delighted!

And just like the ones above, the recipients practically love it!

Not forgetting my signature Alphabetical cupcakes.

By right, there's another special batch ordered by her for a special someone BUT I'll respect her decision not to reveal the pic in the blog or my album cos it's for someone close to her.

After baking for a while, I kinda feel my ganache cupcakes are best for palates which lacks sweet tooth. It's kinda balance of compared to frosting.

Oh ya, the fact of frosting is like the make-up of the cake. Pretty but sweet.

Ganache is simple yet yummy delicious. The sweetnesss level is moderate, I assure you that.

Brownies (Individual packaging)

Hey there. Finally, it's time to update my blog. I've got this special order from my friend who wished to give out to her students. Let these pictures explain itself.

Verdict: Great! She took a bite even before she bathe. Haha. She's so excited to give these chocolatey brownies to her students the next day. It was her last lesson with her class.

Pardon my busy schedule previously.

So those been asking whether I provide any individual packaging.
Here's the answer: YES!

The packaging can be like the above, in a unique dome shape clear container so that the recipient could adore those gorgeous-looking cakes and thank you dearly for giving it to them, that is if you intend to give it away as gifts.

Simplebuds very own Oreo craze cheesecake 'ice cream'

I was super bored on Saturday wkend. It was killing me. I closed my orders on March cos of school and work. But, never did I expect it end so soon, as in the project. IT was a blessing to go up first among the others.
Anyways, apologies to those who I've turned down the orders. But, great news. My schedule (*fingers crossed*) is unoccupied right now except 5-7 Apr due to preparation for my exam.

Back to the story. I was dieing of boredom. Literally, shouting for help. Right after tuition, I went down to do some grocery shopping and I saw Oreos on offer. I love them. So, I thought, why not create my own recipe. I am not a big fan of cheesecake cos I kinda get bored with the taste of too much cheese.

So here's the story how I came up with the Oreo Cheesecake. I wanna make something creamy yet not bored to the taste buds. For sure, not too sweet. I don't wanna get hyperglycemic. And, I want to forego baking for cheesecake cos I am very inspired by Nigella Lawson on how freestyle she could be with her recipes. My mum was like.... How the heck its a cheesecake? Here's how it turns out to be after approx 1/2kg of Oreos, whipped cream, Philadelphia cream cheese and sugar all mixed up and a day's old in the refrigerator.

Haha. I keep asking myself, must it turn out into a conventional cake? It turns out like ice cream! And, with the oreos and cheese blending itself, a superb treat for the afternoon tea time. I practically love the cheesecake. Or shall I say ice cream. This is a perfect recipe for those who are lazy to clean up the oven, but at least got the machine to whip up the cream and cheese. And, here's the side view.

Get well soon cuppies for bestie

Here's an update after a month long of hectic schedule.

Many asked: "Farz, what's your next project?". I simply replied: "School project!" The stress was piling from every side of my life: work, school, freelancing and... 'hypo-baking'. I finally got a reason to bake. My bestie, Nurul, was sick till she got admitted to the hospital. I was so worried for her and didn't manage to visit her due to work and school. And guess what, she wishes for 'Get Well Soon Cupcakes'. She's simply crazy. So here's the turn out of the cupcakes sent to Nurul via delivery by me.

I did extreme minis and the standard size. The above is just nice for the ones who simply wanna indulge in a proportion in between the minis and standard size. As usual, I made my 'signature' chocolate ganache cake.

Then, I got some leftover cakes. I gave it to one of my colleagues who teach with me at one of the centres (*can't tell where though*). She was head over heels on the cakes and shouted in class when she I hand over the cakes to her. She simply love the ganache. Kinda tickles me when I recall what happened. Haha. The students were shocked by her reaction.

Valentinish cupcakes

When that 14 Feb comes by, many don't even know what to get for their loved ones. So here, I would recommend cupcakes. Hey, its great for any event. Sweet! You're my cupcake. Corny, ya I know. Here's the Vday-ish inspiration I had this year.

This is kinda simple. It's Simplebuds anyway. Mariani, my friend back then in poly wanted something similar to my previous Bday cupcake for her bf. So, yes as requested, here it is. I love you baby!

Zhywee wanted 2 dozens. She requested the cupcakes to be divided into portions. So here's the first portion. Specially for the duos of the day. Worth the effort. Worth the love. Worth the cupcakes.

Here's the 2nd portion for her parents. I've no idea what she wants cos she says anything would do cos its purely for tasting. Keep it simple I guess is the way to go. Since its in 3s per box, I got to do the dividers as such to keep it within its area so that at least at the end of the day its still intact and not mushed up.

Here's the last portion. I totally love to do these. It's such a de-stressing activity. She suggested something girly working around the butterfly, love and flowery themes with pink, purple and white coloured cupcakes. It's chocolate cupcakes with frosting as requested by her. Hey, girls and chocolate can't be apart. What can I say, it's the truth MOST of the time.

All packed up in 8s x 2 boxes. It looked so organized.

Chocolate weekend

On Saturday, my friend future-to-be Humanities Teacher, Ms Dewi, wanted something lil mini cakes for chalets. She gave me the idea of extreme mini cupcakes. Since, it was a lil B'day girl celebration cum chalet, I made it into Triple Fun Chocolate cupcakes - Chocolate cake topped with chocolate ganache and mini M's. Let the picture speaks by itself.

Then, the next day, my bestie, Nurul wanted cupcakes B'day cakes for her other friend. Again, another chocolate fan. Had great fun decorating these cakes. Had these marbled mini butterflies I got from the US. Very girly, yet chocolaty. She got extremely excited when she saw these cakes. These cupcakes were in their good shape when I got to Woodlands cos of my custom made cupcake holders. See, I told you, it will be alright unless u shake it up and down.

Now, I'm so into making birthday cupcakes and maybe for wedding and engagement during the weekends. So want anyone??

Cupcakes 101!

After much Tony Buzan work, here's how cupcakes @ Simplebuds are made.

1. The cupcake casings.

I love to do dozens. I either choose the white casing (standard) or the brown casing (smaller ones). Depend on likings though.

2. Cupcake flavours

Currently, I'm able to bake mainly: vanilla, chocolate, nutella swirls, choc chip, strawberry and coffee cupcakes. I'll further explore to the range of flavours gradually.

3. Frosting flavour

What I can recommend for the type of frostings are as follows:

- for those who prefers mild sweetness: go for chocolate/white chocolate ganache.

- for those classics: blueberry, raspeberry jam

- for those who prefer vintage cupcake: vanilla/chocolate buttercream frosting

- for those who are plain simple: no frosting, fret not, it will be as pretty.

4. Cupcake theme & design

The crazier the idea the better. Challenge is my middle name. *Grins*.

I'll explore through my journey of bakery.

5. Packaging

Usually how I store/place the cakes are in the box. The cakes does behave if you see them in my album. So, it didn't get clumsy. As gifts, usually, I recommend ribbons or any additional stuff like crepe paper, decos like roses, extra chocolates or marshmallows in the box to give the extra ummpphh....

6. Cupcakes: delivered/collection?

The west region is the hometown. My friends collect the lovelies from there or I deliver to them as and when my schedule permits.

7. Why cupcakes?

Cos its fun. They are xclusive ideas, I create, taadaaa.... a magical creation. It's just different from the conventional birthday cakes. It's a sincere gift well thought through for that special someone for any form of event. It's cute, sexy and macho at the same time for anyone to give a big surrrppprrise.
